Point access block (PAB) housing, also known as single stair housing, is a common and efficient residential design used in urban environments across most of the world. This design, characterized by a single staircase that serves all units, supports high-density living, promotes walkable neighborhoods, and enhances urban sustainability. However, despite its benefits, this housing typology is largely absent in North America due to stringent building codes that mandate dual staircases for buildings above two or three stories. These outdated regulations have contributed to the housing crisis by limiting the diversity and affordability of housing options.

A new design scheme from Snøhetta and led by the local firm TODD Architects in Belfast, Northern Ireland, has been revealed after the firm won an international competition to transform a 5,000-square-meter (54,000 sq. ft.) site near the city’s historic center in November 2023. Belfast Stories is the lead project featured in the £850 million ($1.07 billion USD) Belfast Region City Deal from 2018. Snøhetta will be working locally to deliver a new landmark destination that's born out of a beloved Art Deco former Bank of Ireland building from 1931.
Pernilla Ohrstedt Studio wins Times Square’s 17th Love & Design Competition with oyster cage installation

Pernilla Ohrstedt Studio has been announced as the winner of the 17th annual Love & Design Competition by Times Square Arts. Their installation, Love Ever After, will be unveiled in February 2025 in collaboration with The World Around and the Billion Oyster Project.
