D&D 5e Is Fully Represented In Solasta 2, For Better And Worse
22 February 2025 @ 4:05 pm
Solasta: Crown of the Magister, a D&D-inspired game that closely follows the rules of the tabletop game's fifth edition, evidently released too soon. The 2021 RPG released to favorable reviews but didn't break into the mainstream. But now we live in a post-Baldur's Gate 3 world, which rocked the gaming industry (GameSpot named it our Game of the Year in 2023), and dice-based games are getting a spotlight they previously didn't have. Solasta II is launching into a far more favorable position than its predecessor, and feels like it could be a great game for folks who enjoyed Baldur's Gate 3 but now want a game that more closely aligns with the experience of playing Dunge

Charizard-Shaped Cheeto Is Up For Auction, And Already At An Astounding Price
22 February 2025 @ 1:06 am
Pokemon fans are known to be passionate, especially as Pokemania nears its 30th anniversary in 2026. Sometimes, fans are even willing to pay shockingly high prices for unofficial Pokemon items, including--of all things--a Flamin' Hot Cheeto that bears more than a little resemblance to Charizard. "Cheetozard" recently went up for auction, and the highest bid has already cleared four figures.Via Polygon, this Charizard-shaped Cheeto is currently available to anyone with a large amount of expendable income on Goldin auctions. At press time, the highest bid is $2,100, and there are still eight more days before the auction comes to a close.
While We Wait For State Of Decay 3, This Punishing New Zombie Game Is Hitting All The Right Notes
21 February 2025 @ 11:34 pm
I've long appreciated State of Decay as the exciting middle ground between an approachable zombie game like Days Gone or Dead Rising, and unforgiving survival sims like DayZ and Project Zomboid. No series or game that I know of has found that same middle ground--harsh, but digestible. But maybe that's no longer true. While I impatiently await more news for State of Decay 3 from Undead Labs and Xbox, Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days is giving me a similar experience with some welcome twists on the formula.Into The Dead m
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Site Is Counting Down To An Announcement
21 February 2025 @ 10:11 pm
Earlier this week, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 had an update that teased the return of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. In a skate park map called The Grind, there is a banner with the THPS logo and the date "03.04.25." Now, the official site for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater has a countdown clock to March 4, 2025, which may mean an announcement is imminent. The very first Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game was released by Activision in September 1999. Although the 25th anniversary has come and gone, Hawk revealed last year that he has been in contact with Activision about doing something to celebrate that quarter century milestone. Hawk later confirmed that

21 February 2025 @ 9:30 pm
Last year, at MagicCon Las Vegas, Wizards Of The Coast revealed three "Universes Beyond" collaboration sets would be coming to Magic: The Gathering in 2025: Final Fantasy, Spider-Man, and one mystery set. Today, during a preview panel at MagicCon Chicago, the company confirmed which IP will be the focus of that mystery set: Avatar: The Last Airbender.A brief teaser video gave a quick glimpse of the characters and art that will feature in the set, but no cards were unveiled at the panel. The Avatar expansion will launch November 21, while Final Fantasy is sc

League Of Legends Spin-Off 2XKO Won't Get A Big Playtest In March After All
21 February 2025 @ 8:01 pm
Riot's League of Legends fighting game, 2XKO, won't receive a big March playtest as originally planned. Instead, it will receive a "much smaller one" while the team looks to "build out the infrastructure" for a much larger test "later this year."The news comes from 2XKO game director Shaun Rivera on X, whose response came after leaks regarding the cancelation of the March playtest and new features began circulating on the 2XKO subreddit, prompting the team to "clear up some misinformation." Although a big playtest similar to the 2XKO Alpha Lab 1 playtest now won't be com
Cabernet Review - Monsters Are Hereditary
21 February 2025 @ 7:30 pm
There's so much delightful intrigue to uncover with Cabernet's core message of monsters being hereditary, a concept that initially seems solely meant to draw parallels between the protagonist's vampirism and her father's alcoholism. But Cabernet dares to go deeper with its message, delving into the cyclical nature of humanity's cruelty to each other, especially regarding the treatment of the lower class, and how society's many ills are often the result of the new rich inheriting the evils of the old. It all makes for a deeply compelling consequence-driven story where every choice carries the potential to surprise you with terrifying force. Some late-game glitches mar the game's fantastic conclusion, but even if developer Party for Introverts doesn't address those issues in post-launch updates, the journey to get to Cabernet's final hour is an incredible piece of interactive fiction.A 2D narrative-driven RPG set
TLOU Boss Says He Never Felt Confident With A Game He's Led Except For This One
21 February 2025 @ 7:27 pm
Neil Druckmann is one of gaming's biggest names, and he's helped write and direct games in the critically and commercially successful franchises like The Last of Us and Uncharted. But Druckmann isn't always confident in what he's making while he's making it--with one exception.During a speech at the DICE Summit recently attended by VentureBeat, Druckmann said only with 2009's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves did he feel "confident" throughout the process. "Every other project where I was at the head of it, I was sure at many points that we were not going to succeed. You just have to power past that feeling," he said.Part of what creates anxiety for Druckmann is the scope and scale of any given project, including staff and large budgets. "There's all this pressure," he said. "There's no formula for how to succeed. You can never guarantee success. All yo
